Hi Dave
I have been using Smart Update. Per your suggestion: via the Finder, I renamed the cloned HD to the same name as my internal HD. Restarted the computer, holding down the option key, and selected the clone (tricky figuring out which one was the clone as both now have the same name). Spinning gears and nothing else. Powered off/restarted to the internal - no problem restarting.

Not quite sure what to suggest here. Perhaps an erase then copy to clear the drive just to see if it makes a difference (it shouldn't)...

Before I erase the partition and reclone, wondering if you suspect this is a possible problem with how the 10.6.3 restart sequence works compared to how 10.6.2 restart sequence functioned?

Hi Dave
Erased/reclonned the partition. Drive now boots w/o issue. Don't know what to say except "alleluia".

That's not the word that comes to mind here, but I'm glad it's working!
