Otherwise, perhaps you need to try to restart your Mac? That's what I'd try.
How can I check if they have been labeled as read only? I'm running from mac mini built in HD. The two Drobo's are external USB. They must be HFS+ as I have been using them for several years with SuperDuper! One is main drive the other is a backup. Again, no finger pointing, I think this is directly related to the recent upgrade to Lion.
