If you want to use a Sandbox (make sure you understand the concept), you can partition the other drive into two -- about 8-12GB or so for the Sandbox, and the rest (hopefully enough) for the backup.
You must back up the original drive as well as making the Sandbox, though -- a Sandbox is not a backup...
